Hey there! đź‘‹
Today’s newsletter is a special one.
The other day, I was scrolling through Instagram and, like we all do, fell into a rabbit hole of reels. One particular story caught my attention, and I knew I had to share it with you. It’s not a typical list of tips or hacks for escaping the 9-to-5.
It’s about something deeper: perspective.
Let me tell you the story of the Chinese farmer, a tale that reminds us not to jump to conclusions about life’s twists and turns.
The Story of the Chinese Farmer
There was once a Chinese farmer who owned a beloved horse. One day, the horse ran away, leaving the farmer without his most valued possession. The villagers came by to express their sympathy. “We’re so sorry about your loss; it’s such a terrible thing,” they said.
The farmer replied, “I don’t know if it’s terrible. We’ll see tomorrow.”
The following day, the horse returned, bringing with it several wild horses. The villagers rejoiced, saying, “What a blessing! You’re so lucky!”
The farmer simply said, “I don’t know if it’s a blessing. We’ll see tomorrow.”
The next day, while trying to tame one of the new horses, the farmer’s son fell and broke his leg. The villagers returned with their condolences. “This is so unfortunate,” they said.
The farmer responded, “I don’t know if it’s unfortunate. We’ll see tomorrow.”
A day later, military officers came to the village to recruit all able-bodied young men for a war. Because of his injury, the farmer’s son was spared from conscription. The villagers congratulated the farmer, “This is wonderful! Your son was saved!”
The farmer, unfazed, said, “We’ll see tomorrow.”
Wrapping It Up with Wisdom
The story of the Chinese farmer is a reminder that life is a series of events, and labeling them as inherently good or bad can be short-sighted. What seems like a setback today could be a stepping stone tomorrow, and a current victory could bring unforeseen challenges later.
"It’s not about whether something is good or bad; it’s how you interpret it and process it."
In the long run, maintaining a neutral, balanced perspective allows us to respond thoughtfully to whatever life brings, without getting trapped in immediate judgments.
It’s a mindset that encourages resilience and adaptability.
So, the next time life throws you a curveball, or a victory, take a step back and remember the words of the wise farmer: “We’ll see tomorrow.”
Catch you next week!
Cheers, 🍻
