Solo-preneurship vs. Classic Entrepreneurship: Which Path Fits You?

Hey there đź‘‹,

There’s a new trend taking over the entrepreneurial world, it’s called solo-preneurship.

Unlike classic entrepreneurship, which often involves managing a team and scaling businesses, solopreneurs are all about building lean, independent ventures where they call all the shots.

Today, we’re breaking down the key differences between these two paths, sharing examples of entrepreneurs excelling in both, and reflecting on what works best for me.

What is Solo-preneurship?

Solo-preneurship is a business model where one person does it all. From strategy to execution, the solopreneur wears every hat. These ventures are often highly focused, leveraging systems, tools, and personal branding to scale without the complexity of managing a team.

đź’ˇ Example 1: Justin Welsh - justinwelsh.me

Justin Welsh built a multi-six-figure business entirely solo, focusing on personal branding, online courses, and LinkedIn content. He proves you don’t need a team to make an impact.

đź’ˇ Example 2: Design Joy - designjoy.co

A one-man design agency offering unlimited graphic design services on a subscription basis. It’s a streamlined, scalable business model powered by just one person.

Classic Entrepreneurship: The Traditional Route

Classic entrepreneurship involves building and scaling businesses with teams, infrastructure, and often a focus on rapid growth. This path can be more complex but offers opportunities to tackle big problems and build lasting companies.

đź’ˇ Example 1: Elon Musk

With Tesla, SpaceX, and more, Musk leads teams to create groundbreaking innovations, something that wouldn’t be possible alone.

đź’ˇ Example 2: Sara Blakely

The founder of Spanx, Sara started solo but scaled her idea into a billion-dollar business by building a strong team around her vision.

Solo-preneurship vs. Classic Entrepreneurship: The Key Differences

Solo-preneurship

  • Operated by one person
  • Focuses on personal branding
  • Lean and independent
  • Limited growth but higher control

Classic Entrepreneurship

  • Involves teams and infrastructure
  • Focuses on scaling operations
  • Collaborative and resource-heavy
  • Potential for larger impact and scale

What Works for Me

Personally, I like both approaches. Solopreneurship gives you autonomy and simplicity, while classic entrepreneurship brings collaboration and the potential for greater impact.

But if I had to choose, I’d say I work better within a team. There’s something energizing about bouncing ideas off others and building something together. Still, the flexibility and independence of solo-preneurship are incredibly tempting!

What about you? Which path feels right for you? Reply to this email and let me know I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Cheers, 🍻
